Short Curriculum Vitae

Completed Middle School and High School in İstanbul Robert College.

Graduated from İstanbul University Medical faculty in 1983.

Completed her compulsory state service in Ankara Beypazarı Primary Care Unit between 1984-1986. After completing her Psychiatric residency training in Bakırköy Teaching Hospital for Psychiatry and Neurology -Bakırköy Ruh ve Sinir Hastalıkları Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi (BRSHH)- with Department Director Doç. Dr. Ali Nahit Babaoğlu she continued to work and started to teach as a lecturer in 2. Neurosis Department.

She became an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in 1999 and , Deputy Director in the Neurosis department in 2001.

In the period between 1992 and 2008 Dr. Gökalp worked and studied mainly on Psychotherapeutic Interventions, Anxiety Disorders, Depression and Mood Disorders . She took clinical and academic responsibilities in the integrative treatment (psychopharmacotherapy, individual and group psychotherapies and milieu therapy) of both in and out-patients of the department. Her main are of research and clinical practice was women’s mental health, traumatic stress disorders, panic disorder and social phobia. Dr. Gökalp was the coordinator of the Out-Patient Department for Anxiety Disorders and was responsible for the implementation of the training program for residents on Anxiety Disorders and Psychotherapy. She acted as the supervisor and advisor of numerous dissertation theses and projects.

Worked as a team member or as the main investigator in many international projects and studies in Turkey and abroad. As a member of the working committee of the WHO Collaboration Center Bakirkoy, took part in scientific activities and translated numerous papers, guidelines and books into Turkish. She was among the founders of the Society of Friends of Schizophrenia, the first psychiatric patients’ and carers’ organization in Turkey, in 1996. She then founded the Mental Health Platform-Turkey in 2006 with colleagues, where all actors in the mental health field came together.

Dr. Gökalp was a member of the Bakırköy (BRSHH) Institutional Ethics Committee-Clinical Investigations Review Board between 2003 and 2008, then member of Clinical Investigations Review Board in Maltepe University Hospital between 2010 and 2012

After her 20 years of work in Bakırköy, she started teaching in Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Psychiatry in October 2008. She was appointed to the position of Department Director after becoming a Professor of Psychiatry in March 2009, until 2012. Prof. Gökalp also worked as the Year VI Program coordinatior of the Medical School.

She is currently the President of Turkish Neuropsychiatric Society founded in 1914, that is one of the first professional organizations of medical specialists.

Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy: Starting with an interest in Psychoanalysis while she was a medical student and then participating in conferences in Turkey and abroad, she continued her studies and formation in psychoanalysis under the auspices of the Istanbul Psychoanalytic Association (founded by Dr. Talat Parman and colleagues in 2001) and International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). She became a member of IPA as a psychoanalyst.

She is currently pursuing her work and formation on the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of psychosomatic patients within the framework of Paris School of Psychosomatics (IPSO-Marty).
